WRITERS GUIDE ON DIFFERENT OCCUPATIONS

A character does not need a certain trait to work in his or her profession. A firefighter might fight fires because he is brave, or he might just want to impress the ladies. A receptionist might have applied for the job because she’s a fast typer, knows her way around the comper, or she only wants the job because it has the oppurtunity to venture further into the company, or perhaps her auntie knows someone who knows the CEO and there was a job opening. A doctor might become a doctor because he has a passion for medicine and helping people, or perhaps he feels obligated to become a doctor because it was his parents wishes.
